Raft falls from RCAF helicopter in Miami, smashing through roof and injuring woman

In a bizarre incident Wednesday, an inflatable raft fell from a Royal Canadian Air Force helicopter and smashed through the roof of a Miami house, injuring a woman inside. It is unclear what caused the raft to “separate” from the helicopter, Miami police said. The RCAF Griffon helicopter was returning to United States Coast Guard Air Station Miami in Opa Locka, Fla. from a sortie on Exercise Southern Breeze when the raft fell, the RCAF said in a statement. “The Royal Canadian Air Force intends to support the affected resident with immediate accommodations and other support,” it added. Witnesses told Miami TV station WSVN 7 they heard what sounded like an explosion when the raft crashed through the roof.
