The Spaniard finally succumbed to the knee injury that has troubled him throughout the tournament with Del Potro leading by two sets 7-6 (7-3) 6-2 in New York. It was third time luck for Delpo as he finally got one over Nadal in a Grand Slam this year following defeats at both the French Open and Wimbledon. And that’s why he is delighted to be back in only his second Grand Slam final. I didn’t expect to get in another Grand Slam final, basically in my favourite tournament that is New York and US Open. And it looked like that freshness might be a factor as Del Potro broke in the very first game but the Spaniard hit back immediately.
