Until today Benitez, whose deal expires in May, has only insisted he will talk to the club once they are safe in the top flight. “As you say there’s too much speculation and people talking too much but the only one at the moment is Newcastle United. Salomon Rondon, at 29, over the age the club wants to spend cash on, has been involved in 14 of Newcastle’s 31 goals this season and wants to stay. Asked if the saga of his future will end soon, Benitez said: “We are waiting.”
