There were a record 275,897 cases reported Saturday, even though seven states did not relay any data, according to The COVID Tracking Project. The state reported just over 15,000 new cases on Saturday and a percent-positivity rate that has grown to 7.45%. In an emailed statement, the Orange County health department said, "UNC Health was notified that Orange County had a number of vaccine vials available for immediate use. The patients were among the 44 people who were identified on Dec. 31 as receiving the wrong treatment at a vaccination clinic hosted by staff at the Boone County Health Department. As of Thursday, 3,472 people were hospitalized because of the virus, according to the state health department.
