Waimate Racecourse will celebrate a $400,000 redevelopment by hosting its first race meeting in nearly five years. Waimate Racing Club president Mike Cooney said the rebuild had been a big job. ​According to Harness Racing New Zealand, Waimate Racing Club came into existence in 1880. The club staged its first totalisator trotting meeting at the racecourse on December 9, 1950.
