Rabies situation in Sarawak under control, no new human infection


Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas said the rabies situation in Sarawak is now under control with the state government introducing several initiative to contain the spread of the zoonotic disease. “Other actions taken included the gazette of infected areas and surveillance zones and controlling the movement of pet dogs and cats from the infected areas. “The state government have also conducted programmes to raise public awareness and educating students as well as promoting responsible pet ownership to control the disease. “Our tag line “No Bites, No Rabies” has been significantly effective in reducing dog bite cases. Four children, aged between 4 and 7, are among the five people, who have died from the disease.
