RWNZ questions police levels, passenger services

Rural Women New Zealand has questioned the adequacy of policing levels, while giving support to changes in land transport regulations which are directed at road safety. "However, we also note recent spikes in the road toll over the last three years, which we think, does raise questions about the adequacy of current policing levels," Mrs McGowan said. RWNZ wants policing levels examined as part of the Bill. In its submission, RWNZ also recommended that the committee further examine the competition effects of new changes the Bill introduces to "small passenger services" drivers, with the intention of creating a more level playing field. RWNZ strongly supported provisions that exempted "not for profit" transport and carpooling providers from the proposed new licensing requirements for small passenger services.
