The victim was identified as Rifat Hossain, 21, son of Sherekul Islam of Dewanpara of the Kumairgari area. He and his cousin, Ullash, after a cricket match went to swim in the Jamuna River near his home town around 1pm. They were trying to cross the river from the south end to the north end, but at one point Rifat became tired and went missing while his cousin managed to swim ashore. After Ullash called for help, police and locals tried their best to find the missing person but failed to locate him.
