Despite the loss incurred by buses taken on wet lease, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is going ahead with its plans to wet-lease 50 multi-axle air-conditioned buses to operate ‘contract carriage services’ to Bengaluru. The two State transport corporations will be operating 100 services in the sector. The casual contract services will be in addition to the inter-State stage-carrier services of the two undertakings. Unions against moveThe KSRTC management will have to overcome opposition of trade unions on wet-leasing the buses. “The wet-leased buses, including battery electric vehicles, are incurring a loss of ₹1 lakh daily and we will oppose the move to take 50 buses on wet lease again,” R. Sasidharan, general secretary of the Kerla Transport Workers Union, said.
