New Zealand is experiencing an increase in reported cases of the potentially fatal virus, with Palmerston North Hospital admitting between 10 and 20 babies with respiratory illnesses each day. Think Hauora chairman and Feilding Healthcare GP Bruce Stewart said demand for appointments for respiratory patients was through the roof, putting enormous stress on staff. He said the RSV outbreak meant hospital services and GPs were under pressure to care for patients with a range of symptoms, including those that could be managed at home.
