Akhil Bhartiya Itihaas Sankalan Samiti, the history wing of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has demanded stopping Friday prayers at Taj Mahal. RSS affiliate body’s National Organisation Secretary Balmukund Pandey told India Today TV questioned the use of a national heritage as a religious site. Since Muslims are allowed to offer prayers there, he demanded that Hindus, too, be allowed to perform puja at the Taj Mahal. The site remains closed on Fridays to allow Muslims to offer prayers. Hindu nationalist organisation RSS has been trying to rewrite Indian history to fit into its worldview.
