The Washington Post, citing a party spokeswoman, reported on Tuesday that the RNC last month made two payments to the law firm of Ronald Fischetti, the defense attorney who was hired by Trump in April. It is not clear, however, that the investigations relate to Trump’s tenure in the White House or activities during his campaign. The committee, however, is reportedly not contributing to the legal fees for other investigations targeting Trump, including his battle over requests from the House select committee probing the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. When Trump was in office, the committee covered fees for lawyers to represent Donald Trump Jr. in the investigations related to Russian interference in the 2016 election, he Post noted.
