With the latest order, AirAsia has 404 aircraft on order worth billions of ringgit. It did it again at the Farnborough International Airshow this week with a 100 aircraft order and 200 engines order, both costing a whopping RM61bil at list prices. Chinese and Indian carriers have also hundreds of aircraft on order, though plane makers Airbus and Boeing are seeing orders waning since they had roaring orders the past few years. A total 33,703 aircraft worth US$5.3 trillion will be needed in the next 20 years, with 13,500 air planes needed in the Asia-Pacific region. He adds that airlines need to book their orders early because they need to plan ahead, as buying an aircraft needs forward planning.
