RCMP in Alberta say man faces manslaughter charge in carfentanil death

— An Alberta man faces a manslaughter charge after police allege he supplied pills in a carfentanil overdose. RCMP say 48-year-old Guy Kennedy was found dead in a hotel room in Edson, Alta., on Oct. 21, 2016. Police say several tablets and powder residue were in the room, and tests later confirmed the tablets were counterfeit OxyContin and contained carfentanil. Police say carfentanil has a quantitative potency 100 times that of fentanyl, and that a dose as little as 20 micrograms can be fatal. The hotel room was secured until police with advanced safety gear could investigate the scene.
