On Monday, Canada’s iconic Mounties invaded a checkpoint set up by the Unist’ot’en house group of the Wet’suwet’en Nation. RCMP officers arrested the women and other land defenders. All the land acknowledgments in the world cannot undo this dastardly defiling of reconciliation. Immigrants may come here from lands impoverished by European colonizers, drawn to the riches of the West. Protesters blocked an arterial VIA rail route connecting Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto at Belleville, Ont., for the fourth straight day on Monday.
