PUTRAJAYA: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today the Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) foreign exchange (forex) losses in the 1990s was not due to manipulation of any sort, but a miscalculation on the part of the then governor of the central bank. He was, in particular, upset when Suhaimi alluded to the fact that Dr Mahathir already knew of the alleged RM31 billion forex losses in 1993. (Dr Mahathir had claimed this in the first half of proceedings today when reading his statement at the RCI. Sidek then asked Dr Mahathir if he believed that Anwar lied to the cabinet when he reported RM5.7 billion forex losses in April 1993. The RCI is expected to conclude tomorrow, after the testimony of its final witness, former auditor general Tan Sri Ishak Tadin.
