The government wanted to make a to-do list after the buildings are surveyed, he told the media after a meeting at the RAJUK Auditorium on Sunday. He vowed tough measures to prevent a recurrence, which occurred 36 days after a fire burnt several buildings and vehicles at a busy Old Dhaka intersection, killing at least 70 people. He said the government will publish a list of buildings that have no fire safety systems and were built illegally. The minister urged the residents of all the buildings in Dhaka to check whether these have fire extinguishers and emergency escape. The 23-storey building’s design was for 18 floors while the owners neglected a fire service notice to install fire safety system last year.
