RAB for pausing mobile banking in Cox’s Bazar to stop drug peddling

RAB Director General Benazir Ahmed made the proposal at an anti-drugs programme in the presence of Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal in Dhaka on Sunday. “Please keep transactions in Cox’s Bazar suspended for two months experimentally and see what happens,” he urged the minister. The law enforcers have conducted 1,791 operations during the ongoing crackdown on drugs, starting from May, according to the RAB chief. A total of 47 people, whose name are on a home ministry list of top drug traders, were killed in 367 operations, Benazir said. The home minister defended the killings during raids, saying the law enforcers only responded when the suspects opened fire.
