The ZOE Covid Symptom Study UK Infection Survey estimates the UK R number is 1.2 - but different parts of the country are suffering worse infection spikes. London could be as high as 1.4 with England having a 1.3 average (the same as Wales), whereas in Scotland it is 1.1. The R number is an estimate on how many people are infected from each case. There are still large differences across the London boroughs: Havering and Enfield are still the worst affected areas this week, followed by Newham. The number of Covid hospital patients in England increase by 1,000 on December 21 - the biggest daily increase in the second wave.
