For a country that prides itself on its food, we seem to waste a lot of it. The average Malaysian throws 1kg of food away everyday, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, when closing the Malaysian Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro-Tourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2018, recently. While a 2016 research by Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) on waste in landfills indicated that households produce the most food waste (40%), experts say that corporations have a part to play as well.
