AFTER PROMISING quota within quota for most backward castes in Uttar Pradesh, Congress now plans to launch a campaign to reach out to the community by focusing on ‘non-Yadavs’. Congress leaders have been tasked to identify the villages where most backward castes are have a considerable presence. Among the issues the party plans to take up include the promise of providing 19 per cent quota out of 27 per cent OBC reservation. Thus, we would promise 19 per cent reservation within 27 per cent quota of OBC for most backward castes,” said Siya Ram Pal, secretary of Uttar Pradesh Congress Backward Class cell. “Most backward castes like Nishad, Mallah, Kumhar, Pal and Kushwaha among others barely benefit from the reservation despite the fact that they need it the most.
