(Marvin Joseph/The Washington Post)J.K. Rowling may have invented the word “quidditch,” but Oxford Dictionaries gave the wizarding word a whole new definition on Tuesday when it added it to its venerable tome. Us (2012): "How long can it be before quidditch enters the English language for good?" Jack Lennard, the brain behind the sport’s first Premier League, which is set to launch this year, echoed that sentiment. Right now when you search for “quidditch,” all you get is a suggestion that you may have misspelled “quiddity,” a vague synonym for peculiarity. The term “quidditch” was added to Oxford Dictionaries, which focuses on current English, and not the Oxford English Dictionary, which is a historical dictionary that contains only words that are considered “core” English language.
