In the wake of the floods that hit the Klang Valley after heavy rains, recent viral postings on social media have claimed that the so-called 'Sungai Kobat dam' in Kuantan, Pahang would be opened to release water, inciting worry in nearby residents, particularly those in the Cenderawasih area. VERDICTFALSEThe Pahang state government took to its official Facebook page to debunk the claim on Monday (Dec 20). "There is actually no dam at Sungai Kobat. There is only a barrage gate ('pintu air') that prevents saltwater from entering the raw water pump house's headworks," the post clarified. It stressed that the barrage gate does not dam water, and urged the public to seek out verified information from the authorities if any questionable information is circulated.
