Quibi launched as a mobile-only service at the peak of the pandemic lockdown and aimed at becoming the app of choice for people on-the-go. Disney+ had more than 60.5 million subscribers as of August. HBOMax, widely considered a misfire by WarnerMedia, had only 4.1 million subscribers as of July, about a month after it launched, and as of last month, NBCUniversal’s Peacock had 15 million subscribers since launching in late July. Quibi, which spent $400 million on marketing, had about 5.6 million subscribers as of July, though not all of those were paying. “I’ve never seen an environment change this fast,” Whitman told Forbes before the app launched.
