The Queen was surrounded by historic personal mementos from the war years as she paid emotional tribute to the wartime generation in an electrifying speech on the 75th anniversary of VE Day from Windsor Castle. To her right (1) is a picture of her father King George VI (key, the king giving the VE Day speech on May 8, 1945). Behind the Queen (2) is a framed photograph of the then Princess Elizabeth with her sister Margaret, her mother the future Queen Mother, and King George. The princess became Queen just seven years after the end of the war when her beloved father died in 1952.
