Black Sticks hockey player Megan Hull is a finalist for sportsperson of the year at the Tararua Sports Awards. Athletes from swimming, rugby and hockey are among the competitors vying for the title of sportsperson of the year at the Tararua Sports Awards. The finalists for the awards have been announced ahead of the event at the Dannevirke Town Hall on Friday. Junior sportswoman of the year: Abby Treder (various sports), Ella Rankin (equestrian), Stephanie McNair (smallbore rifle shooting), Stephanie Walker (athletics). Team of the year: 2019 Tararua College senior premier girls’ basketball team, Aotea Sports Club, Dannevirke senior B rugby team, Dannevirke Tigers under-15s Tama, Ngāti Kahungunu ki Tāmaki Nui-a-Rua under-15 basketball team, Tararua C grade women’s squash team, Tararua Club women’s golf.
