A Brisbane Uber driver accused of unlawfully detaining a female passenger by driving around the inner-city suburbs for more than an hour plans to contest a criminal charge, a court has heard. Umar Subi Gammeda appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with one count of deprivation of liberty. Police allege the Ethiopian-born man instead drove through inner-city suburbs for more than an hour before heading south in the Clem 7 Tunnel. Subi Gammeda, who made no comment to waiting media as he left the court precinct, "is not to perform work as an Uber driver" according to his bail undertaking. The Logan resident will have to appear when the matter returns to court on September 27.
