Qatar is due to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. But sanctions by a group of Gulf nations may pose a threat to its ability to pull off international football’s top tournament. Last month, nine nations including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Bahrain cut diplomatic ties with Qatar. Qatari officials initially anticipated spending $200 billion on work related to hosting the World Cup. It's another question altogether about managing them if the same specter is still looming just in time for the World Cup.
