QC’s molecular laboratory, which will be able to process 500 tests per day with only one to two days turnaround time, had been accredited by the DoH for level three, it was learned. The laboratory, according to her, would not only process Covid-19 tests, but other medical tests such as tuberculosis, human immunodeficiency virus and dengue, among others. In Caloocan, Mayor Oscar Malapitan told The Manila Times that the molecular laboratory would be set up at the compound of the Caloocan City North Medical Center. “With our own molecular laboratory, more residents can be tested with the results we can quickly obtain so that those who would be tested positive would be immediately sent to our isolation facilities,” Malapitan said. The two mayors said putting up their own molecular laboratory would lessen their expenses since they have been paying private hospitals and laboratories for the tests of their constituents.
