more-inI have recently had an IUD inserted, but I find that the odour of my vaginal discharge has changed; it smells fishy now. The IUD sits inside the uterus like a foreign body with the threads inside the vagina. Therefore, vaginal infections may ascend via the threads into the uterus, causing infection of the uterus. Also, irregular and heavy bleeding, which sometimes occurs due to the IUD, increases the chances of vaginal infection.
