Pym to step down as AIB's chairman in 2020

Following the departure of the bank's former CEO Bernard Byrne to Davy, and the potential rewards of an uncapped salary and bonuses, Mr Pym described it as a "grim day" in his life. During his time as chairman, the bank underwent a number of changes, including a return of dividend payments to shareholders and its initial public offering in 2017. Yesterday, Colin Hunt, CEO of AIB, said Mr Pym had "used his vast pools of experience and wisdom to guide the group's development, and has carried out all his duties with energy and professionalism". A successor to Mr Pym will be announced "in due course". Meanwhile, AIB has also appointed Brendan McDonagh to the role of deputy chairman with immediate effect.
