KUALA LUMPUR: Puteri Umno has hit back at allegations by one of its former members that many cases of khalwat (close proximity) occur every time the Umno General Assembly comes around. A group, led by the wing's information chief Haryaty Hamdzah, lodged a police report against its former member Wan Ashima Kamarudin who was reported to have made the claim. "Such allegations are baseless and can tarnish the reputation of the party and the annual general assembly. She went on to challenge the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) to carry out raids to arrest those engaging in khalwat. Haryaty said that Wan Ashima should have spoken out about such acts while she was still in Umno and not waited until she joined PAS.
