Pupils dish out parking tickets to polluters at school gates

Children at Russell Scott primary school are issuing fake tickets at drop-off time that explain the dangers of exhaust fumesPupils are issuing fake parking tickets to parents who leave engines idling or park selfishly outside a primary school where dozens of children have asthma. The children wear caps and high-vis waistcoats labelled “Junior PCSO” (Police Community Support Officer) and patrol the streets beside Russell Scott primary school in Denton, Greater Manchester, at drop-off and pick-up times to help clean up the air. The school is near several big roads, including the M67 and M60, and beside a busy retail park. The children put a yellow “Parking Infringement Notice” in a plastic sleeve on the windscreen of any offending vehicle. When unfolded, the ticket explains how exhaust pollution harms children’s health and gives advice on alternative places to park.
