The state government, apart from the liquor lobby, was facing big losses after the Apex Court in April this year banned sale of liquor within 500 metres of national and state highways. According to the government, the order of the Supreme Court on Highway liquor sale are ambiguous and only talk about liquor shops. He also plans to challenge Punjab government's decision in the apex court soon. Law experts believe that the state's decision to amend the act to facilitate liquor sale will not only violate the apex court orders but may also lead to a crisis after the amendment becomes a law.
