Writing for children is not easy as you have to write for a particular age group," said Gulzar, adding that it is disappointing that children literature in Hindi is also limited to adaptations or the mythological stories of Ramayana and Mahabharta.Elaborating more on the children literature, he said it is available prominently in Bangla, Marathi and Malayalam. "I am disheartened to say that Punjabi has zero literature for children. There is nothing in Punjabi literature for children. And Urdu is worse in this case, as there is absolutely no children literature in Urdu as well," said Gulzar. The importance (khoobi) of the children, said Gulzar, is that it is meant for children but the grown-ups are equally fascinated by the beauty of this literature. He said if adults don't like the writings for children, children won't like them either.
