He was pleased the discussions that had occurred so far had included all the parties, both for and against, who had an interest in the development of a marine protected area. Otago is the only region nationwide that does not have a marine reserve. There are several around Dunedin, including two alternatives off the Dunedin coast, two alternatives for the "bryozoan bed'' off the coastline, and a suggested marine reserve at Saunders Canyon or Papanui Canyon. Marine reserves were also proposed for Green Island and the area between Harekeke Point and White Island, while White Island to Waldronville was suggested as a marine protected area.
