NewsPublic sector employees working hours in Sri Lanka are likely to be changed to 9.30 am to 5.30 pm from the current 8.00 am to 4.00 pm under a new proposal by the Government. This is to enable an effective public service without workers wasting important hours in heavy vehicular traffic in Colombo and the suburbs. The Public Administration Ministry has been directed to present a proposal for the consideration of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Management (CCEM) to revise the public sector office hours soon. This was the outcome of discussions held recently by senior officials of the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development, Transport Ministry and Highways Ministry, official sources said. Some years ago too there was flexi working hours.
