more-inThe Senthurai taluk in Ariyalur district has become free of liquor shops as Tasmac officials could not open outlets due to public unrest. The protest then spilled over to neighbouring villages, where TASMAC outlets were functioning. There were eight outlets in the taluk including the two in Senthurai before the Supreme Court ordered the closure of TASMAC outlets on National Highways and State Highways. The wave of public protests forced officials to close down liquor shops at Senthurai, Nallampalayam, Kumulur, Irumpulikurichi and R.S. Mathur, public resentment against TASMAC shops does not seem to have died down.
