PHOTO: ODT FILESSeventy-two percent of the Wanaka public surveyed recently would like some of the town centre's streets closed to vehicles. Of 1071 responses, 31% supported the closure of Ardmore St from Lakeside Rd to McDougall St, 19% from Lakeside Rd to Dungarvon St, 22% from Helwick St to Dungarvon St, and 20% did not support closure. A proposal to join Pembroke Park to the lakefront, which would mean closing part of Ardmore St, was supported by 60%. A "safe cycle network" was supported by 90% and the introduction of a public bus service by 82%.
