BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday alleged some “controversial and partisan” officers in the law-enforcing agencies and the administration met at the third-floor conference room at the Officers’ Club on the night of Nov 20. On Sunday, Secretary Faiz said in a rejoinder that Rizvi’s claim was “imaginary, false and misleading”. The secretary claimed that he did not go to the club on Nov 20 and that he left his office at 8 on that night to take part in a family programme,Rizvi’s “defamatory and dishonouring” comments aimed to “belittle the secretary and keep him under pressure by making him controversial”. The BNP earlier had written to the Election Commission seeking removal of a number of top officials, including Faiz, EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, and some deputy commissioners. EC Secretary Helal also binned Rizvi’s claim on Saturday night and urged the BNP leaders to stay away from “falsehood”.
