Last week Whitbread, which owns Premier Inn and Beefeater, warned that 6,000 staff could lose their jobs. Pub chain JD Wetherspoon has also announced plans to axe 1,000 staff at airport venues while Greggs, which has 25,000 employees, is cutting hours across its workforce.
