The Southland Stags could have a battle on its hands to retain Manaaki Selby-Rickit for the 2021 provincial rugby season. The Southland Stags will have a scrap on its hands to try to retain some of its leading players as other provinces start to circle. Stags coach Dale MacLeod was aware of the interest from other provinces as various player managers attempted to lobby for the best deal. Given Southland was unable to compete with other unions financially, MacLeod said it was extra important to create an appealing environment to help retain players. It's a short competition for players that might want to come to Southland after the Super season,’’ he said.
