The Ontario government has agreed to settle out of court with patients who suffered physical and sexual abuse at a London facility for children with behavioural, developmental and psychiatric issues. The institution is still operational in London but the name changed to the Children and Parent Resource Institute (CPRI) in 1992. The settlement says victims who experienced one or more incidents of "Serious Sexual Assault" will receive $30,000. It says those who were physically assaulted in a way that caused "serious physical injury" or "impairment or disfigurement or broken or fractured bones" and other types of injuries are eligible for $15,000. A trial was set to begin in this case on Monday but it has been suspended in light of the settlement.
