Provide adequate protection against virus infection, companies told

KUCHING: Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) will not compromise employers who fail to provide adequate protection for their workers following the recent outbreak of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV). Sarawak director Dr Nor Halim Hasan said action could be taken against errant employers under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 Act 514 (OSHA 514). “It is compulsory for employers to ensure their employees are protected from any form of hazard as well as virus infections, including the Wuhan coronavirus, while at work. “We welcome employees to lodge complaints with our department if there is any company which refuses to provide protection. “We will investigate thoroughly (if there is a complaint) as we shouldn’t risk the safety and health of our employees.”
