KUALA LUMPUR: National carmaker Proton Holdings Bhd began 2020 on a solid footing with a 20.2% year-on-year (y-o-y) jump in vehicle registrations in the first month of the year, as it builds on the momentum of its strong 2019 performance. In a statement yesterday, Proton said it recorded a total of 8,506 new registrations in January, which marked its “most successful January sales in four years”. In terms of market share, there was a 4.9% improvement to 19.5% compared to the same period last year, Proton said. We believe that our strong emphasis on technology, safety and quality is what is driving sales. Proton registered a 55.7% y-o-y jump in sales last year to 100,821 units — the first time it breached the 100,000-mark since 2015.
