Bombay high court today instituted a two judge committee, as ordered by the Supreme Court, to look into the issue of cutting trees in Mumbai. Justice Shantanu Kemkar and Justice BR Gavai will look into the grievances against cutting of trees to make way for Mumbai metro III project. Residents living around areas such as Cuffe Parade and Churchgate, where the trees are already being axed, allege that the trees that are being selected for transplanting are small trees which will take ages to grow. The trees bear tags that say, Churchgate, Hutatma Chowk, and so on, which mean that they have been transplanted from that area of Mumbai. Another citizen who has been protesting against the chopping of trees Abhay Bhaveshi calls the area where the trees have been transplanted as the "graveyard of our trees."
