PISTON and No To Jeepney Phaseout Coalition transport groups said they will hold today a protest against the public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization program of the government. The protest, which will start in front of the National Housing Authority in Quezon City at 7 a.m. and end at Mendiola in Manila, hopes to get the attention of President Rodrigo Duterte, according to Piston president and NTJPC convenor George San Mateo. “Let us tell President Duterte to act quickly to stop the implementation of the Omnibus Franchising Guidelines [OFG] of the Department of Transportation,” San Mateo urged jeepney drivers and operators. Operators in Zambales, Bataan and Pampanga are also expected to conduct a transport strike in their respective areas, according to San Mateo. REICELENE JOY N. IGNACIO
