Coromandel Watchdog spokeswoman Augusta Macassey-Pickard said no amount of high grade gold is worth digging up conservation land. New Talisman Gold Mines have found high grade gold deposits in the 120-year old Talisman mine. "We need to protect this land from toxic gold mining industries and shift towards an economy that offers sustainable and environmentally beneficial industries, like tourism." Delahunty said the Karangahake community won't sit back and let it happen.
