Protest against uni animal lab

A cardboard heart representing each animal that died in University of Otago teaching and research last year was hung on the building site of its new animal research facility yesterday. The 11,358 paper hearts were placed by the New Zealand Anti-Vivisection Society and other animal rights activists early yesterday. "Each heart represents one animal that was killed by the University of Otago for research, testing and teaching last year," society executive director Tara Jackson said. Animal rights activists contemplate the cardboard hearts on the building site of the animal research lab. A protest against the lab will be held outside the Hercus Building tomorrow morning.
