COLUMBIA, S.C. — For nearly his whole career, a South Carolina police chief has been making his officers give him narcotics legally prescribed to their families, according to indictments filed against him on Friday. The documents don’t indicate how many pills Wilbanks obtained or what he was using them for. Along with the drug charges, Wilbanks also gave someone outside the department a police firearm in a private deal, prosecutors said.
